✨ Calming Herbal Sleep Gummies
If you’ve ever felt wired but exhausted during the second half of your cycle, you’re not alone — and there’s a biological reason for it. The luteal phase, which begins after ovulation and ends just before your period, is a time of hormonal shifts that can deeply affect our sleep. As progesterone begins to decline and cortisol sensitivity increases, many women experience disrupted sleep, more nighttime wake-ups, and even anxiety or restlessness at bedtime.
Ironically, this is also the phase when we may experience more vivid, emotionally charged dreams — likely due to increased REM activity influenced by neurotransmitters like GABA and serotonin. But even though dreams might feel more intense or memorable, deep, restorative sleep can be harder to come by.
As a clinical herbalist, I love turning to nervine and adaptogenic herbs to support this natural hormonal rhythm. These herbal sleep gummies are one of my favorite ways to wind down during the luteal phase. They're made with calming herbs like valerian root, chamomile, passionflower, and lavender, plus ashwagandha to regulate stress hormones, and tart cherry juice for a gentle, natural source of melatonin. Bonus: they’re made with grass-fed gelatin, which supports gut, skin, and joint health while giving the gummies their perfectly chewy texture.
Let’s break down the plant magic:
Let’s break down the herbal allies in these sleep-supportive gummies — each one was chosen with intention to help calm the nervous system, balance stress hormones, and support deeper, more restorative sleep:
✨ Valerian Root
A classic herbal sedative. Valerian helps quiet the nervous system and promote deep sleep by increasing GABA, a calming neurotransmitter in the brain. It’s especially helpful for falling asleep faster.
✨ Passionflower
This beautiful vine is known to soothe mental chatter and restlessness. Passionflower supports both GABA activity and overall nervous system tone, making it ideal for winding down after overstimulation or anxiety.
✨ Chamomile
Gentle yet powerful, chamomile relaxes the digestive system and the mind. It’s especially supportive for luteal phase irritability or cramping that can interfere with sleep.
✨ Lavender
Lavender’s calming aroma and antispasmodic compounds help ease physical and emotional tension. It’s known to promote a sense of peace and reduce nighttime wake-ups.
✨ Ashwagandha
An adaptogen that helps regulate cortisol and support the body’s response to stress. Ashwagandha doesn’t make you sleepy, but it helps your system relax, setting the stage for restful sleep — especially when anxiety or overwhelm are high.
✨ Tart Cherry Juice
A natural source of melatonin , the hormone that helps regulate your circadian rhythm. Tart cherry also offers anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits, supporting muscle recovery and hormone balance.
Ready to make your own? Let’s dive into the recipe.
Soothe: Designed to regulate hormones, support cycle regularity, and prevent PMS symptoms.
Crampy: If you need immediate relief from menstrual cramps, this tincture works quickly to ease discomfort.
Bitters: improves digestion and support nutrient absorption, and overall gut health.
Sleepy: promotes restful sleep and supports nervous system health.
First, combine the gelatin and water in a pyrex glass or bowl. Mix and let sit while you prepare the rest of the recipe.
In a pot, combine the tart cherry juice, honey, and gelatin (which should be very thick and firm).
Via stovetop, heat the mixture enough to mix the gelatin into the tart cherry juice thoroughly. One done, remove the pot from heat.
Once cooled slightly, add in the Sleepy and mix.
Transfer the gummies into a mould or into a glass dish lined with parchment paper and transfer to the fridge to cool for at least an hour. Once ready, you can slice the gummies into 21 servings, or, if using a mould, pop them out! I recommend storing the gummies, covered, in the fridge and eating 1-2 per night, depending on the size of your gummies, of course.
✔️ Eat 1–2 gummies per night, about 30–60 minutes before bed
✔️ Best taken during the luteal phase (the 10–14 days before your period), when sleep is often more disrupted
✔️ Great for travel , high-stress weeks , or anytime your nervous system needs extra support
✔️ Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 10 days for maximum freshness
✔️ Pair with your other nighttime rituals — herbal tea, journaling, castor oil packs — for a dreamy wind-down routine

Sleep often becomes more disrupted in the luteal phase due to hormone shifts — especially a drop in progesterone and rising cortisol — which can lead to restless nights and vivid dreams.
These herbal sleep gummies combine nervine and adaptogenic herbs (like valerian, passionflower, chamomile, lavender, and ashwagandha) with tart cherry juice to gently support deeper, more restorative sleep.
Made with hormone-loving, gut-supportive ingredients , these gummies are a delicious and functional way to wind down — especially when used consistently before bed.
