Herbal Facial Steam *RECIPE*

Ingredients:

  • 1 part Chamomile (anti-inflammatory)
  • 2 parts Calendula (wound healing, skin inflammation)
  • 1/2 part Rosemary (antioxidant, astringent, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory)
  • 1/2 part Lavender (soothing, wound healing, anti-fungal and microbial, detoxifying, acne)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Herbs:

    • Measure out your herbs using the following ratio:
      • 1 part Chamomile
      • 2 parts Calendula
      • 1/2 part Rosemary
      • 1/4 part Lavender
    • For a standard facial steam, use approximately 1 tablespoon as one part.
  2. Mix the Herbs:

    • In a non-reactive bowl (such as glass or stainless steel), mix the measured herbs together to ensure they are well combined.
  3. Cleanse Your Face:

    • Before starting the steam, clean your face thoroughly to remove any dirt, makeup, or oils. This ensures that your pores can fully benefit from the steam.
  4. Boil Water:

    • Boil about 4 cups of water in a non-reactive pot (such as stainless steel or glass).
  5. Set Up the Steam:

    • Carefully pour the boiling water over the mixed herbs in the non-reactive bowl.
    • Allow the herbs to steep for a few minutes, releasing their beneficial properties into the steam.
  6. Prepare for Steaming:

    • Find a comfortable place to sit where you can safely lean over the bowl.
    • Drape a large towel over your head and the bowl, creating a tent to trap the steam.
    • Ensure your face is at a comfortable distance from the hot water to avoid burns (about 12-18 inches).
  7. Steam Your Face:

    • Close your eyes and take deep breaths, allowing the steam to envelop your face.
    • Steam for about 10-15 minutes. If you feel too hot, take a break or adjust your distance from the bowl.
  8. After Steaming:

    • Gently pat your face dry with a clean towel.
    • Follow up with your favorite cleanser, toner, and moisturizer to lock in the benefits of the steam.
