Welcome to Peace Love Hormones, AKA The Modern Woman's Apothecary!
As a pregnant clinical herbalist, ginger is my go-to herb for easing nausea, and these soft chews are my favorite way to enjoy it daily. They’re warming, soothing, and naturally sweetened with date sugar and date syrup, making them a more wholesome alternative to conventional candy or store-bought ginger chews.
Unlike typical ginger candies loaded with refined sugar and artificial ingredients, these soft caramels are made with real food ingredients you can feel good about, especially during pregnancy.
Ginger is rich in active compounds like gingerols and shogaols, which have been shown in clinical studies to help relieve nausea, support digestion, and speed up stomach emptying —all common discomforts during early pregnancy. Plus, it brings that familiar zing that feels grounding and energizing.
Combined with Ceylon cinnamon (a gentler, pregnancy-safe variety of cinnamon), this recipe offers gentle warmth without overstimulation.
Soothe: Designed to regulate hormones, support cycle regularity, and prevent PMS symptoms.
Crampy: If you need immediate relief from menstrual cramps, this tincture works quickly to ease discomfort.
Bitters: improves digestion and support nutrient absorption, and overall gut health.
Sleepy: promotes restful sleep and supports nervous system health.
4 tbsp expeller-pressed coconut oil
½ cup date sugar
½ cup date syrup
3 tbsp fresh grated ginger
½ tsp ground Ceylon cinnamon
Small pinch of sea salt
Prep Your Pan: Line a small loaf pan with parchment paper and lightly grease with coconut oil.
In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine coconut oil, date syrup, and date sugar over medium-high heat. Stir continuously until the sugar softens and the mixture begins to bubble. (Note: Date sugar may not fully dissolve like cane sugar. This gives the chews a deliciously rustic, textured look.)
Stir in ½ cup fresh lemon juice and 3 tbsp raw honey into the warm (not boiling) infusion.
Whisk until the honey is fully dissolved.
Stir in grated ginger and cinnamon. Keep stirring to prevent burning.
Bring to Soft-Ball Stage (240°F / 115°C): Use a candy thermometer or test by dropping a spoonful into cold water. If it forms a soft, squishy ball that flattens when pressed—it’s ready. Add in a pinch of sea salt and stir.
Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks, or refrigerate for longer shelf life.
Ginger Intensity: Adjust the ginger level based on your taste and nausea sensitivity.
