✨ Calming Herbal Sleep Gummies

If you’re pregnant and finding yourself both exhausted and strangely alert at bedtime, you’re in good company. Sleep disruptions tend to become more common later in pregnancy, when hormonal shifts, a growing belly, temperature changes, and more frequent nighttime bathroom trips all start to stack up. As progesterone continues to rise and your nervous system becomes more sensitive, it’s completely normal to experience restlessness, lighter sleep, or more frequent wake-ups.

Supporting Pregnancy Sleep the Herbalist Way

As a clinical herbalist, I always prioritize gentle, well-studied botanicals and nutrients during pregnancy. Instead of stronger sedative herbs, I focus on nourishing nervines, amino acids, and food-based supports that help calm the nervous system and signal to the body that it’s safe to rest.

These pregnancy-friendly sleep gummies are one of my favorite nighttime rituals. They’re designed to support your sleep with herbs and nutrients that are widely regarded as gentle during pregnancy.

 Why These Gummies Work

- Tart cherry juice: A natural source of melatonin precursors that can support a smoother transition into sleep.

- Glycine: This simple amino acid helps promote deeper, more restorative sleep and may reduce nighttime waking. It also plays a role in temperature regulation, which can feel especially helpful during pregnancy.

- Lemon balm and chamomile: Two of my favorite pregnancy-friendly nervines. They gently soothe the nervous system, quiet mental chatter, and help ease the body into relaxation without sedation.

- Gelatin: Not just for texture, but gelatin adds additional glycine and supports the gut–brain axis, which plays a big role in mood, stress, and sleep quality.

Herbal Supplements for Women's Health:

Soothe: Designed to regulate hormones, support cycle regularity, and prevent PMS symptoms.

Crampy: If you need immediate relief from menstrual cramps, this tincture works quickly to ease discomfort.

Bitters: improves digestion and support nutrient absorption, and overall gut health.

Sleepy: promotes restful sleep and supports nervous system health.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup organic pure tart cherry juice
  • 1 tbsp lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)
  • 1 tbsp chamomile (Matricaria recutita)
  • 2 tablespoons glycine powder
  • 1–2 tablespoons raw honey or maple syrup
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 4 tablespoons grass-fed gelatin + 1/4 c water

Directions

Step 1: Bloom the Gelatin

First, combine the gelatin and water in a pyrex glass or bowl. Mix and let sit while you prepare the rest of the recipe.

Step 2: . Make the Herbal Tart Cherry Infusion

  1. Add 1 cup tart cherry juice to a small pot.
  2. Heat gently until steaming. Do not boil.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Add 1 tbsp lemon balm and 1 tbsp chamomile.
  5. Cover and steep 20–30 minutes for a strong, calming infusion.

Step 3: Strain the Herb Out

  1. Place a fine mesh strainer (or strainer lined with muslin/cheesecloth) over a bowl and strain thoroughly.
  2. Discard the herbs.
  3. Return the infused tart cherry liquid to the pot.

Step 4: Add Remaining Ingredients

While the liquid is still warm (not hot):

  • Whisk in 2 tablespoons glycine powder.
  • Add 1–2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup.
  • Add vanilla extract if using.
  • Add in bloomed gelatin.
  • Stir until completely dissolved.

Step 5: Pour and Set

  • Pour into silicone molds or a glass dish.
  • Refrigerate 1 hour, or until firm.

If using a dish, cut into 1-inch cubes.

💛 How to Use:

✔️ Pregnancy safe:

  • Take 2–3 gummies before bed
    (≈ 1.6–2.4 grams glycine)

✔️ General use or postpartum:

  • Take 3–4 gummies before bed
    (≈ 2.4–3.2 grams glycine)

This provides an effective and gentle dose for deeper, more restorative sleep.

✔️ Store in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 10 days for maximum freshness
✔️ Pair with your other nighttime rituals — herbal tea, journaling, castor oil packs — for a dreamy wind-down routine
