As a clinical herbalist, I’ve seen firsthand the power of herbal remedies to support overall health. One of my favorites, especially during the colder months, is elderberry syrup. Packed with antioxidants and vitamins, elderberries are known for their immune-boosting properties. Below, I’ll share my personal recipe for elderberry syrup, which not only tastes great but also supports your body naturally. I’ll also introduce a few of my herbal tinctures that complement this syrup for full-body wellness.
In a saucepan, combine the rehydrated elderberries, water, cinnamon stick, and sliced ginger. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Let this mixture simmer for 30 minutes, allowing the liquid to reduce by about half.
Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
Once cooled, strain the liquid into a clean jar or bottle, discarding the elderberries and other solids.
Stir in the local organic raw honey. It’s important to wait until the mixture has cooled before adding the honey, as boiling honey can destroy its beneficial enzymes.
Store your syrup in the fridge, and take a tablespoon daily for immune support.
While elderberry syrup is wonderful for immune health, I also recommend a few of my herbal tinctures for women's hormone and reproductive health, digestive support, and sleep:
